EDT: Social media giant, Twitter announced on Wednesday that they will test a new feature to prompt users to read the actual article before clicking on the retweet button. This decision is taken in a view to counter fake or misinformation from circulating on twitter.

Twitter Support tweeted:

To help promote informed discussion, we’re testing a new prompt on Android — when you Retweet an article that you haven’t opened on Twitter, we may ask if you’d like to open it first.”

Sharing an article can spark conversation, so you may want to read it before you Tweet it.

This feature is currently being tested for android users only. From last month, Twitter has been rolling out several updates to twitter users in order to make twitter a more reliable and safe place to be on. This is twitter’s latest update to poster the fake news or misinformation.  This step is praiseworthy as twitter is being targeted by plenty of users for become biased, including United States President Donald Trump.

Last week Twitter, put a fact check tag on Trump’s tweet. After that twitter become a battleground for all the left and right-wing people.

“It’s easy for links/articles to go viral on Twitter, This can be powerful but sometimes dangerous, especially if people haven’t read the content they’re spreading. — Twittter”

In a short span of time, Twitter rolled out several updates for android as well as iOS users such as “Limit who can reply on your tweet”,  and “Hide specific reply”. Twitter said that they will later offer “Read before retweeting an Article” update to iOS users.  Right now, Twitter is also working on providing a cleaner interface for discussion tweets.
